Local mother publishes children’s book “Little Lion, Brave & Strong”

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – A Wichita Falls mother has released a children’s book to educate little ones about humans who are born as unique beings.

The author of “Little Lion Brave and Strong” said that with this book she wants to make every child aware of their differences.

Mother of two Whitney Henderson never planned to publish a book, but six months ago she was inspired to write a children’s book about her son’s skeletal dysphasia.

“The most important thing about this book was that people and their children know that they belong, no matter how unique they are,” Whitney says.

Three-year-old Mason was born with skeletal dysphasia, and Whitney and his husband have been instilling words of affirmation in him since he was a baby.

“And I just said every night, ‘You are strong, you are brave like a lion.’ And it became something that could be put in a book so other kids could say the exact same quote,” she said.

In January, Whitney was inspired to write her book.

“Obviously, because of his dysphasia, he’s smaller, so he’s small. But we really focused on keeping it simple, and it was about him and something he could read,” she said.

This book is tailored to each child who is born with a uniqueness.

“It doesn’t matter that he’s little and other children may have different abilities, whether it’s a physical disability or a cognitive disability, they’re all still part of it. We just shared this with our Cook pediatrician and she’s hoping to share it with the Cook Children’s Network and her media team. So I hope it gets shared with a lot of other people and families who may be experiencing similar things,” she explained. “When you see little people or people with differences in public, you shouldn’t point it out, you should just accept them for who they are,” she added.

Part of the proceeds from book sales goes to research into skeletal dysphasia.
