New York man wanted for hit-and-run after gruesome murder of elderly woman is caught after nearly five years on the run

A Queens hit-and-run driver wanted in connection with the horrific death of a 72-year-old woman in 2019 was finally caught Thursday after being on the run for nearly five years, police said.

Naquan Young, 46, was arrested on a warrant in Pennsylvania and extradited to New York City, officials confirmed to The Post.

Young was wanted in connection with the gruesome killing of Gilda Lascano after his gray Lexus SUV ran a red light in Ozone Park around 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2019, and collided with a burgundy Honda CRV in which she was a passenger, police said.

The impact sent the Honda flying into the facade of a flower shop and Lascano flying through the windshield of the CRV and under a car parked nearby, police said.

Her death was pronounced at the scene of the accident, and the Honda driver, an unidentified 56-year-old woman, was taken to hospital.

Young fled on foot, officials said.

He is charged with negligent homicide, second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and hit-and-run.

He was arraigned Friday in Queens Criminal Court and is being held without bail, court officials said.

Young was indicted in absentia by a grand jury in 2023 before he was eventually arrested.
