A 40-year-old Ontario man has been charged with the murder of Tory (Tori) Dunn, a Surrey woman who was killed during a violent break-in at her home on Father’s Day.

Dunn, 30, died after being attacked at her home near the 9800 block of 182A Street on June 16.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Adam Mann would be charged with first-degree murder after Surrey Police found him while on their way to Dunn’s home following a call for help.

At the time of Dunn’s murder, Mann was charged with grievous bodily harm stemming from an alleged attack in Surrey three weeks earlier, a case he is due to stand trial in on July 2.

A few days after her murder, Dunn’s father Aron posted on Facebook that his daughter had been the victim of a burglary.

In a social media post, he wrote that his daughter was in her home in the Port Kells district of Surrey when someone broke in.

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, an IHIT spokesman, said her real name is spelled “Tory,” but she is usually mistaken for “Tori.”

“We, her family, cannot even begin to understand how someone as kind as Tori could become a victim of such senseless violence. Tori was loved by everyone she knew. She devoted her time and love to her friends and family, she was someone who lit up the room with her smile and laughter. She is loved more than words can express,” Dunn wrote.

IHIT is asking anyone with dashboard cameras or surveillance video in the area of the 9800 block of 182A Street, Surrey, on June 16 between 9:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].

According to court records, a certain Adam Troy Mann, also born in 1983, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing of a woman in Surrey on May 26. The stabbing charges were not filed until June 17, one day after the arrest in the Dunn murder case.

The IHIT would not confirm whether the person charged in the stabbing is the same person charged in Dunn’s murder.

“I cannot confirm that it is the same person, but I can confirm that Mann was arrested shortly after Ms. Dunn’s murder on June 16. He is still in custody. This morning he was formally charged with Ms. Dunn’s murder,” Pierotti said in an email to Postmedia on Friday.
