CATSKILL, NY – A Greene County jury has found a city woman guilty of the 2021 murder of Scott Myers, prosecutors said Friday.
Carrie Weiser was convicted of first-degree murder on Thursday, June 27.
In a statement, Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione called the case “very complicated.”
Authorities have said Weiser stabbed Myers in the left side of the neck at 12:30 a.m. on November 27, 2021. They said she then called 911 and was still at Myers’ apartment when police arrived.
According to police, Myers bled to death and was pronounced dead at the scene. Weiser was arrested shortly afterward.
“It was clear that the jury studied all the evidence, including photographs, video recordings, interviews, exhibits, etc.” and “left no stone unturned before unanimously concluding that Carrie Weiser did indeed murder Scott Myers,” Stanzione said.
He said defense attorneys Danielle Neroni and William Roberts “stormed forward with an aggressive defense, attacking virtually every witness and piece of evidence. The defense then offered several alternative theories about what happened, ranging from “Scott Myers committed suicide” to “Carrie Weiser was drugged and drunk and therefore could not be held responsible for her actions because she was too drunk to form an ‘intent to murder,'” to “she killed Scott Myers in self-defense when Myers attempted to rape her.”
According to the prosecutor, “the jury went through all the elements of the case and found that the prosecution, led by Jennifer Sandleitner (Assistant District Attorney), had not only proven the murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt, but had also disproved beyond a reasonable doubt all of the defense arguments raised by the defense.”
The case was prosecuted by Sandleitner and Assistant District Attorney Monica Kenny-Keff, and presided over by Judge Charles M. Tailleur.
Weiser is scheduled to be sentenced on August 27 and faces a prison sentence of 25 years to life.
