Chris Johnson and LenDale White say the Titans running back is a perfect fit

Tony Pollard signed with the Tennessee Titans this offseason and many Titans fans are excited to see the former Memphis football star in action with his home state team.

This group includes two running backs the Titans know well: Chris Johnson and LenDale White.

“He’s pretty good,” Johnson said. “He’s done some good things in his years in Dallas, especially when he worked with (Ezekiel Elliott). I think he’s going to be a perfect fit for the type of offense I think Tennessee is developing. A guy that can run the ball, a guy that can help you with the passing game. I think he’s going to be a good fit for the Titans’ offense.”

Johnson and White spoke at an NFL Alumni Association event at the National Civil Rights Museum on Wednesday. The event also featured former Titans/Oilers players Al Smith, Brad Hopkins and Jevon Kearse.

White, who played for the Titans from 2006-09 and rushed for 1,110 yards in 2007, said he is excited to see what role Pollard will play this season.

“I like TP,” White said. “I hope it doesn’t go in the wrong direction. I like TP in a role where he’s not the all-around guy, but where they use him — I know the 1-2 head record with (Tyjae) Spears is going to be unreal. I love Tony Pollard. What he’s done with the Cowboys is unreal. I think a change of scenery is always good. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what he does with us.”

Pollard signed with the Titans after spending the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. He has two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Titans in March. Pollard, a graduate of Melrose High School, was with the Tigers from 2015-18 and was named an All-American in 2017.

Now he will help replace Derrick Henry, who signed with the Ravens in the offseason.

“He’s definitely cold, man,” White said. “The crazy thing about the Titans is we always find a way to get a really good running back.”

Johnson played for the Titans from 2008 to 2013 and had one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history, rushing for 2,006 yards in 2009. He said he’s looking forward to seeing Pollard in a Titans uniform, but he wants to see it first before adding Pollard to the list of illustrious Titans backs.

“We’ll have to see what he does first,” he said. “We just can’t count him out yet. He hasn’t played a single down for us yet.”
