Craven County Partners In Education, in partnership with Books-A-Million, announces book purchase program for grades preschool through 5th grade

Partners In Education (PIE) and New Bern’s Books-A-Million (BAM) are offering our community the opportunity to purchase books for Craven County Schools classrooms. The book purchase program will take place July 21 – August 18, 2024 at Books-A-Million, 3005 Dr. Martin Luther King., Jr., Blvd.

Taryn Fisher, General Manager at Books-A-Million, explains, “The most successful way to improve our children’s reading achievement is to make it easier for them to access print books. Communities that score high on achievement tests have several factors in common: an abundance of books in public libraries, easy access to books in the community, and many textbooks per student. Get involved in improving Craven County students’ reading achievement and literacy by purchasing a book for our Craven County Schools classrooms through our book purchase program!”

Brandy Popp, Chair of the PIE Fund Raising Committee, says, “Books-A-Million reached out to us about providing more books for our students in their classrooms. Our goal is to focus on students in preschool through 5th grade. The list of books available for purchase through the Book Purchasing Program can be found on the website CravenPartners.com and also at Books-A-Million.”Note: Books must be purchased in person at the store. Online purchases are not eligible for this program.

The books purchased by our community members will be provided to Craven County Schools teachers in preschool through 5th grade for use in their classrooms in a book giveaway at Books-A-Million from September 8-21, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A book giveaway notification will be sent to CCS teachers in September. CCS teachers must show their school system ID to receive the free books.
