The 25th BJ’s Wholesale Club in New Jersey will open in Hanover, Morris County, in early 2025, the membership-based wholesaler announced this week.

According to JerseyDigs, the BJ’s will be part of the 23-acre Hanover Towne Center planned on Route 10 in Hanover’s Whippany neighborhood.

The plans call for a 15,400-square-foot “big-box discount club with a gas station and 60 townhomes,” according to the Morris County Planning Board’s June 2021 minutes.

BJ’s had already announced its intention to open a store elsewhere in Hanover in 2017, but the plans were never realized.

Another BJ’s is scheduled to open in North Carolina early next year, according to the June 25 announcement.

“We are excited to offer the unbeatable value of our membership to even more families in New Jersey and North Carolina,” said Bill Werner, executive vice president at BJ’s.

“As we continue to expand our presence on the East Coast and beyond, we look forward to helping even more families save.”

A budget-friendly alternative to inflation

Wholesale clubs – like BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club – often charge annual membership fees to purchase everything from groceries to clothing or Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog.

But despite these fees, “many consumers appreciate the lower prices and savings they get from buying in bulk,” says analyst Neil Saunders, managing director of retail at Global Data.

“This has become even more important in times of high inflation in essential goods,” he said.
