The next author of Amazing Spider-Man has been chosen

As part of the surprise release of Moon Knight #0, Marvel also revealed who the next writer of Amazing Spider-Man will be.

CBR: How does it feel to be able to write a tie-in for such a big Marvel event?

Jason Loo: I’m always happy when I can play in the same sandbox with cool people who have cool ideas. But at the same time, I like to take my toys with me and play with them in a far corner of the sandbox so that I can tell my own story in the larger context of this event. That way, readers can pick up my book and have fun with it on their own.

The description for Werewolf at Night: Blood Hunt #1 reveals that the issue will take readers in a “dangerous new direction.” Can you elaborate on that?

Jake Gomez’s (aka the new Werewolf By Night) story gets darker and begins with this book, taking place in an abandoned amusement park with a demonic ghost, some loitering teenagers, and of course… VAMPIRES!

The solicitation also mentions that the character will have a new look and new abilities. What new abilities does she have and what changes have been made to her appearance?

I don’t want to give away the ending, but I’ll say “like father, like son,” only with sharper teeth. And oh yeah, cover artist Davide Paratore has beautifully portrayed Jake’s new werewolf look on the cover. SPOILER!

You mentioned in a LinkedIn post a few months ago that your version of “Werewolf by Night” will show us your dark side. What was it like exploring the darker side of storytelling?

You follow me on LinkedIn?!! Surprisingly, this came naturally to me and my editors Lauren Amaro and Devin Lewis have been cheering me on as I get more brutal in my writing. I want to evoke the same thrill and excitement that fans got from reading the older Marvel horror magazines, like Vampire stories, Wild storiesAnd Unleashed Monsters to name just a few. This also applies to the new Werewolf at night Series that I also write with the great Sergio Davila about art.

What are you most excited for fans to see in your tie-in?

I really want readers to start out knowing very little about what moviegoers who watch a grindhouse movie without seeing the trailer do and end up pleasantly entertained. Artist Adam Gorham captures that cinematic horror mood perfectly on every page. This book is worth the price of admission, at the very least.

Speaking of the new series, it was recently announced that the original Werewolf of Night, Jack Russell, will be playing the lead role! Can you give us an idea of what the original Werewolf of Night will be dealing with in his series?

One group happens to be the remnants of the Darkholders. Just a sad, lost bunch. And joining them is… someone who had a Marvel Legends action figure made of them. The character is also currently doing some wild things before making his way into my series.

There is a lot of uncertainty in Jack’s life right now. Is there anyone he can trust?

Yes, Elsa Bloodstone.

Werewolf at Night Red Ribbon Issue #1 will be available from Marvel Comics on August 14th.
