LOS ANGELES — Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez are now divorced.

A Los Angeles Superior Court ruling dissolving the couple’s nearly three-year marriage became official on Tuesday, six months after the 30-year-old pop star filed for divorce from the 28-year-old real estate agent.

According to court records, the couple separated over a year ago. They had a prenuptial agreement, no children, and no significant legal disputes during the separation, so the separation went quickly and smoothly through the courtroom.

The terms of their settlement were agreed in October; they only had to wait the required six months for a court order to take effect.

Under the agreement, Grande will pay Gomez a one-time payment of $1,250,000, with no future child support payments, half of the proceeds from the sale of their Los Angeles home, and up to $25,000 toward his legal fees.

As with the vast majority of divorces in California, Grande’s filing cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation.

The couple began dating in January 2020 and quarantined together during the pandemic. In May of that year, they appeared together in the video for Justin Bieber’s charity single “Stuck With U” and announced their engagement the following December.

The pop star married Gomez in a small ceremony in May 2021, Grande’s representative Michelle Margolis confirmed a People report to USA TODAY at the time.

The couple married at their home in Montecito, California, with fewer than 20 guests. Grande wore a Vera Wang dress and platform shoes. Wang promised Grande years ago at the Met Gala that she would one day make the singer’s wedding dress.

Grande’s divorce became final after the Florida-born singer and actress released her seventh studio album, “Eternal Sunshine,” on March 8.

Grande’s love life has been a subject of gossip and criticism over the past four years since her last album, Positions. The singer was previously engaged to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson after meeting him during her appearance on SNL. Love blossomed between the pop star and the comedian, and they got engaged weeks after making their relationship Instagram official. The two called off their engagement in October 2018.

A month later, Grande released “Thank U, Next.” The opening lines of the song mention Davidson as well as her other exes Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez and Mac Miller, who died of a drug overdose in September 2018.

As fans may have expected, her 2023 divorce from Gomez and rumored relationship with actor Ethan Slater sparked a lot of conflicting emotions, which she channels in “Eternal Flame.”

Songs like “Don’t Wanna Break Up Again” and the title track (with the catchy line “you played me like an Atari”) are self-explanatory and show Grande spreading her smooth vocals over somewhat generic grooves.

“I can’t believe I’m finally overcoming my fears,” Grande sings on “Bye,” which could be an homage to old-school disco. Squiggly synths and guitars layer the undertone of the bubbly song, which belies the vulnerability in her lyrics about finding the courage to leave a broken relationship behind and unleash her inner strength.
