Cause of death of Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock announced

Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of Crazy Town, died of an accidental overdose after struggling with addiction for years, according to the band’s manager.

Howie Hubberman, the rap-rock group’s manager, said Shellshock – whose real name is Seth Binzer – died as a result of taking a lethal “combination of prescription drugs and street-bought drugs,” he told People on Thursday.

“After his battle with addiction and the quick success of Crazy Town, Seth Binzer was never able to deal with his addiction on a more successful level with ‘Butterfly,'” Hubberman told the outlet.

“We all tried, but in the end we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”

Hubberman described the troubled rocker as a “friend” he wished he could “fix,” but “unfortunately, no one, including myself, had the proper tools to do that.”

The Los Angeles County coroner has not yet officially announced the singer’s cause of death after confirming he died on Monday. He was 49 years old.

A toxicology report is still pending, according to People.

The Crazy Town frontman posted several cryptic messages on social media two months before his death.

Shellshock’s struggle with addiction was brought to the public’s attention when he appeared on the first and second seasons of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

During his appearance on the reality show, the frontman spoke about his battle with cocaine addiction during his first appearance on the show. The “Revolving Door” singer returned for season 2 after his relapse.

During his second appearance on the show, he was addicted to stimulants.

The musician also appeared in both seasons of the “Celebrity Rehab” successor show “Sober House” in 2009 and 2010.

Crazy Town was founded in 1995 by Shellshock and fellow rapper Bret “Epic” Mazur.

Other members included DJ Rick One, Mark White, Adam Bravin, Charles Lopez and more.

The group achieved their breakthrough in 2000 with their single “Butterfly”.

The song reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks straight.
