Criminal complaint examined in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry

Investigations may link several people to ketamine found in Perry’s body

Charges could be filed in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry, according to new reports on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Times reported that investigators have linked several people to the procurement of the drug ketamine found in Perry’s system.

Perry, an actor best known for his role in the television series “Friends,” was found in his pool on October 28. He was “floating face down in the hot end,” the report said. He was 54 years old.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released an autopsy report late last year that said Perry died of a ketamine overdose, citing possible secondary causes as drowning, coronary artery disease and taking a medication to treat opioid addiction.

Dr. Angelique Campen, an emergency room physician, spoke to KCAL 9 News about the proper use of ketamine in a clinical setting. “It has to be used under medical supervision,” Dr. Campen said. “It has to be done with a heart monitor and an oxygen monitor and under the care and supervision of a physician. When I use ketamine in the emergency room, I use it as a dissociative agent, for example, when I’m doing a painful procedure on someone.”

The investigation into the ketamine administered to Perry before his death has reached a point where law enforcement and other agencies see an end in sight. Law enforcement sources say the U.S. Attorney’s Office may soon decide to file charges against several people in connection with the actor’s death.
