Fury Road grossed $380 million at the worldwide box office, but its success was somewhat marred by reports of an on-set feud between lead actors Theron and Tom Hardy.

In advance FuriousIn the press release, Miller admitted that there was “no excuse” for the arguments between the two actors.

“Tom is damaged, but he also has a certain genius, and whatever was going on with him at the time, we had to coax him out of his trailer,” said the director.

“Charlize, on the other hand, was incredibly disciplined – she was a trained dancer, which was reflected in the precision of her performance – and was always the first on set.

“I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as a reflection of their character, which had to learn to work together for mutual survival,” Miller added. “There is no excuse for that, and I think there is a tendency in this business to use great achievements as an excuse for other disruptions that could have been avoided.”

Furious has received rave reviews ahead of its theatrical release on May 24.
