Singer Bebe Rexha hit by discarded cell phone at concert in Manhattan; spectator charged with assault

Singer Bebe Rexha was hit by a cell phone thrown to her by a man in the audience during Rexha’s rooftop concert in the South Street Seaport district of Lower Manhattan.

According to local reports, Rexha was taken to a nearby hospital after the phone was thrown and received three stitches.

Local ABC affiliate WABC reports that concertgoer Nicolas Malvagna, 27, of Manalapan, New Jersey, has been charged with assault. Malvagna is in police custody and is expected to appear in court later Monday.

Today, Rexha posted two photos on her Instagram page. One shows a blackened left eye under two strips of surgical tape. The second photo shows a small red scar just below her left eyebrow.

“I’m fine,” the singer wrote in a short message accompanying the photos. In the first photo, Rexha is smiling and giving a thumbs up.

The incident occurred during Rexha’s performance at the Rooftop at Pier 17 around 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Rooftop hosts many popular concerts during the summer. Upcoming shows include Nickel Creek, Bryson Tiller, T-Pain, Barenaked Ladies and others.

Rexha recently Babyher eponymous third studio album, which includes her successful collaboration with David Guetta entitled “I’m Good (Blue)”.
