HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Jenni Rivera, known as “La Diva de la Banda,” was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.

The star was unveiled during a dedication ceremony in front of the Capitol Records building. Television presenter and close friend of Rivera, Jessica Maldonado, hosted the event along with Mexican singer Gloria Trevi.

“She was there when I was a little boy and her music and her life really added something positive, so she means a lot to me,” said a fan who attended Thursday’s ceremony.

La Diva de la Banda: Honoring the life and legacy of music icon Jenni Rivera

Long Beach singer Jenni Rivera catapulted to stardom in a male-dominated genre, becoming one of the most successful banda artists of all time. This is her life and her legacy.

The star was accepted by Rivera’s five children.

“It is a great honor to be the daughter of such an amazing woman,” said the singer’s eldest daughter, Janney Marín Rivera, better known as “Chiquis.” “A woman who has accomplished so much, yes, but more than anything is to be the daughter of a woman who has left her mark on this earth that is in the hearts of so many people. Even though it has been almost 12 years, she is still alive, and I see her in my siblings and I see her in all of you.”

Rivera was a groundbreaking music icon who pioneered the Mexican banda genre as a singer in the 1990s and is currently the highest-earning banda singer of all time. She and six others died in a plane crash in 2012.
