Frijns joins Formula E’s 100-race club in Portland

These are the other drivers who have surpassed 100 races in Formula E’s ten action-packed seasons.

Lucas di Grassi: 127 races

100 Races Milestone 5

It is no secret that ABT CUPRA Lucas di Grassi has played a major role in the championship even before the first race. The Brazilian racer was one of the first to drive the Spark-Renault SRT_01E, testing it on a circuit in France just under a year before the inaugural race at the 2014 Beijing E-Prix.

He also won the first ever Formula E race after a final corner battle between Nico Prost and Nick Heidfeld knocked them both out of the lead in dramatic fashion. Since then, he has won a further 12 races in nine seasons, meaning he and Envision Racing’s Sebastien Buemi hold the record for most wins in the championship – both with 13 each.

In addition to his 40 podium finishes and four pole positions with Julius Baer, di Grassi also won the drivers’ title in Formula E Season 3. Although Buemi led the overall standings for most of that season, di Grassi managed to turn the championship result around and bring home the title during the nerve-wracking 2017 Montreal E-Prix weekend.

He has competed in every Formula E race, but di Grassi missed his first start at the 2023 Cape Town E-Prix due to a problem with the Mahindra’s rear suspension.

Jean-Eric Vergne: 126 races

100 races, milestone 2

Frenchman and DS PENSKE driver Jean-Eric Vergne is the only driver to have won the Formula E crown twice, and the only one to do so consecutively. Vergne made his Formula E debut a little later than other drivers on this list, securing back-to-back titles in seasons 4 and 5. He began his career at the 2014 Julius Baer Punta del Este E-Prix, the third round of the first season. Since then, Vergne has competed in every race – 126 in total.

Despite failing to score any wins in his first two seasons, JEV moved to the Techeetah team in Season 3 and was soon racking up wins. In Season 4, the year he won his first Formula E title, Vergne managed four wins in the 12 races, as well as six podiums and four pole positions. In fact, Vergne is a master of pole positions, achieving 16 of them during his time in the all-electric series.

Despite participating in over 100 races in Formula E and Reaching 1000 championship pointsJEV shows no signs of slowing down.

Antonio Felix da Costa: 124 races

100 Races Milestone 6

With 124 starts under his belt, TAG Heuer is Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa is also part of the 100 club. The Portuguese racer, who also made his debut in the first season, was absent from the first race but has been part of the Formula E family since the second race in Putrajaya. Despite missing a few races at the start, including the finale of the 2015 London doubleheader, da Costa has emerged as one of Formula E’s key players.

This was helped by his win of the Drivers’ Championship in Season 6, scoring three wins, three pole positions and six podiums en route to the title. Da Costa claimed his championship crown at round nine of the pandemic-affected eleventh round of racing and also holds the record for the earliest title win of the season with two races still to go.

Da Costa has made the jump to Porsche for the new GEN3 era of Formula E and won two of the last three races of Season 10, proving once again that all his experience still makes him one of the best on the grid.

Sebastien Buemi: 123 races

100 Races Milestone 4

Although he has the same number of victories as di Grassi (13), Seb Buemi has a slightly higher win percentage, having competed in 123 races during his incredible Formula E career. Buemi represented Renault during the dominant era in the early stages of the championship, winning the teams’ title consecutively in his first three seasons. He has 31 podiums and 16 pole positions to his name.

After winning the Drivers’ Championship in Season 2, he continued his efforts in the electric racing series despite a drop in major results. He has been winless since Season 6, but only made it onto the podium again this season in Mexico City. With the competitive Jaguar powertrain in the back of his Envision Racing car, Buemi is ready for redemption.

Sam Bird: 121 races

100 Races Milestone 7

NEOM McLaren’s Sam Bird has seen it all during his career in Formula E. From his participation in the first race in Beijing to today, the Brit has some really impressive statistics. In addition to his six pole positions and 27 podiums, he has also achieved 12 victories – the last one at the 2024 São Paulo E-Prix.

Bird has won a race in every season up to season seven and has been a consistent threat to the highly talented field. He commands huge respect from the drivers. Bird reached the 100-race milestone at the 2022 Diriyah E-Prix while racing for Jaguar, finishing the race on a podium finish.

As well as missing a win in Season 8, Bird was also forced to sit out the doubleheader finale in Seoul after breaking his left hand at the London E-Prix. A collision in qualifying at the weekend in Cape Town also meant Bird had to watch the race from the sidelines after his car was damaged and a chassis change was required. He also recently missed three races in Season 10 after breaking his wrist during free practice for the Monaco E-Prix.

Mitch Evans: 107 races

100 Races Milestone 1

Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans was the last driver to reach the 100-race milestone in Tokyo earlier this year. The 29-year-old New Zealander has been part of the Jaguar family since joining Formula E in Season 3 and has achieved a total of 12 wins, 28 podiums and seven pole positions during that time.

Evans was responsible for all but four of the all-electric championship wins and was a key figurehead for the team. Aside from Evans, team principal James Barclay and Evans’ race engineer Josep Roca are the only team members to have attended all of Jaguar’s events.

Robin Frijns: 98 races

The two-race winner has stood on the Formula E podium 14 times since his debut in Season 2 and is one of the most popular characters in the all-electric paddock. He would have reached the 100 mark earlier, but last season he suffered an injury that kept him out for four races.
