The one song Rebel Wilson couldn’t live without

Rebel Wilson revealed some things during her episode of CDs for the desert island. First, she became an actress after hallucinating due to malaria, and second, she moved to Hollywood with nothing but a blanket and a suitcase. While this may not be surprising given the roles she has become known for, there is an interesting story in the songs that have accompanied her along the way.

Unlike the many humorous characters Wilson has played throughout her career, many of her song choices have been incredibly soulful, showing how much music has become a valuable companion to many of the actress’s fondest memories and most important milestones. Although she has suffered the brutality of media discourse, she keeps her head high and appreciates only what is important.

After being forced to come out by a publication that wanted to publicize her relationship with her partner, Wilson soon began to reveal a number of wholesome details about the partnership and their engagement. One of her song choices is her absolute favorite, not only because of its undeniable genius, but because it reminds her of the time she fell to her knees.

As she popped the all-important question, the unforgettable moment was accompanied by a violinist’s rendition of Elton John’s “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” – in keeping with the caption she posted on social media after announcing their relationship. “I thought I was looking for a Disney prince… but maybe what I really needed all along was a Disney princess,” she wrote.

For most of us, just the sound of Whitney Houston’s voice evokes similar romantic, spooky feelings, and Wilson is no different. “Greatest Love of All” became a natural favorite and was ingrained in her from a young age as her mother would play a cassette of the song and sing along. According to Wilson, her mother loved the feeling of seeing children as pioneers for a better world.

In true Wilson fashion, however, when asked to choose her favorite song among those she likes, none of the above songs top her list, but not for the reasons one might suspect. Wilson is attached to every choice she makes, but if forced to choose one that would be played on the deserted island once she is discovered, she would be more likely to choose “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”

“They mean everything to me,” the actress said of the various songs she chose. “(But) I might choose ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,’ because if they find me and I’m like a skeleton, at least people might laugh when they hear that song.” While the outcome probably wouldn’t have been any different, any of the other choices may have too much depth in Wilson’s life to ever be chosen and placed above all the other candidates.
