Clinton Kane responds to false allegations about his mother’s death

After a series of TikToks by YouTuber Brooke Schofield denouncing Clinton Kane as a “master manipulator” and lying about his mother’s death, the singer is now denying her allegations, claiming he meant the death of a “mother-like figure” all along.

“Clinton Kane and Brooke Schofield had a brief, three-month relationship over two years ago,” a statement to Rolling Stone“Brooke’s recent comments about Clinton are untrue.”

The statement comes a day after Schofield filmed a 14-part TikTok series in which she opened up about how she met Kane, describing a tumultuous relationship and accusing the singer of lying about the deaths of his family members, including his mother and brother.

In her videos, Schofield claimed that Kane tried to delete an interview from the internet after people commented that he was lying about his mother’s death and that his mother lived in the Philippines. Schofield also claimed that Kane told her that he grew up with his mother in a villa in Australia, that she was Norwegian, blonde and a pastor at Hillsong, and that she neglected him during his childhood. “His mother is Asian, just like him. Why would you lie about that?” Schofield said in the video. “I could tell that he is an extremely pathological liar.”

In Thursday’s statement, the spokesperson says the “mother” he referred to in the interview with Sang was actually “a very special maternal figure in his teenage years who has sadly passed away,” and not his biological mother as was believed. The spokesperson’s statement did not go into further details about Schofield, who was described.

“Clinton regrets the manner in which this devastating news was communicated at the time,” the statement said. “Clinton truly felt he had lost an irreplaceable mother figure. Clinton was and remains largely estranged from his immediate family.”

In another video, Schofield shared a clip of one of her arguments with Kane, in which he does not appear to have an Australian accent. She also claims he once showed a police officer a fake Australian ID with a different age on it during a stop. In Thursday’s statement, Kane’s spokesperson says he lived in Australia “for a time as a child” and “considers Australia his home.” “He has never been disingenuous about that,” the statement said.

In several videos, Schofield accused Kane of controlling her and not wanting to let her leave his side. She said he was “triggered” during a trip because she was on the phone during dinner because his mother didn’t pay attention to him as a child. Schofield claims Kane told her to be “more sensitive” to his trauma.

“It became a situation where I was mothering this man and if I did something wrong … he would freak out because he was a toddler,” she claimed. “It was just too much for me.”

Schofield also accused Kane of cheating on her, claiming he cheated on his ex with her as well. “I never imagined he would be capable of that, considering how romantic and a love bomber he was,” Schofield claimed. “He’s a master manipulator.”

After their split, Schofield says she confronted Kane and he admitted to fabricating the deaths of his mother and brothers. “One of the three is dead, but the rest are still alive,” she said in the video. Kane’s spokesperson’s statement does not address Schofield’s claim that Kane’s brother is alive.

“Publicly rehashing these details is merely an attempt to draw attention to Brooke’s podcast at the expense of disparaging another ex-boyfriend – a tactic she has become known for,” the statement from Kane’s spokesperson said. “In the years since this relationship began, Clinton has made progress and remains focused and committed to releasing new music.”

Schofield’s recent videos about her relationship with Kane came after he began promoting a new single, which comes out on Friday. He posted a video with a caption that reportedly refers to her: “When you’ve been over the relationship for 2 years but she won’t stop blabbing.”
