Aaron Carter’s twin sister Angel Carter prepared for his death

Aaron Carter’s twin sister Angel Carter recently spoke about her brother’s struggles and how she prepared for him years before his death.

Angel stopped by Taylor Lautner and his wife Taylor Dome’s podcast The squeezewhere she spoke openly about Aaron’s death in 2022 and the family dynamics that likely played a role in it. Of the five Carter siblings, Angel and Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys are the only ones still alive. When her first sibling, Leslie, died, Angel explained that she was completely blindsided by it.

“I didn’t see this coming. When she died, I was already in therapy and preparing for Aaron’s death. I thought he was going to die,” she said on the podcast. “I was afraid of it my entire 20s. I knew this day was coming, and I think he knew it too, because he couldn’t get over it.”

Angel said she tried to be tough on Aaron and be honest with him about his mental health and addiction issues, but she said he didn’t want to hear that from her: “He needed his parents’ help.”

When his parents, Jane and Robert Carter, divorced in 2004, Angel admitted that she believed Aaron felt responsible for the separation because he had seen what his fame and money were doing to them and their relationship and the greed it was causing.

“As a child, he thought it was his fault, and he carried that with him his whole life,” she said. “He thought success had destroyed the family, and it wasn’t his responsibility to carry all that burden. … His innocence was taken away from him, and he would often be away on these long tours all year long, and he just wanted to go home.”

Instead of encouraging him to come home, his parents pressured him to finish the tour and promised to buy him a boat or something (with his money) when he returned, Angel explained. “He just wanted to be home,” she added. “He just wanted to be a kid. He wanted to make friends and play outside. His innocence was not protected.”

Aaron’s legacy after years of mental health issues and allegations of sexual assault against Nick was recently featured in Investigation Discovery’s Fallen idols: Nick and Aaron Carter.
