The Borderland welcomes Club America for a historic friendly match – The Prospector

After winning the Liga MX championship twice, Club America played its first warm-up match against FC JuarezThe reigning champions came to Sun Bowl Stadium for the first time on June 23 to play an international friendly, where they welcomed nearly 30,000 spectators.

With the arrival of Club America, all eyes were on Borderland native Alejandro Zendejas, who returned to the city after his team was declared Liga MX champions.

An overwhelming number of Club America jerseys were visible among the spectators in the stadium, with fans from the Borderland as well as Austin, New Mexico and Houston filling the seats to show their support.

Ramon Torrez, a fan of Club America, said he has loved the team since he was a child. Torrez said he considers this match to be historic because of the team’s current reputation.

“I’ve been interested in soccer since I was a child. As a young boy I played in the league and I’ve always had a passion for the game (soccer),” Torrez said. “It’s great here (at the Sun Bowl) because we have the best team in Liga MX right now, (although) most of them are substitutes, but the fact that they’re here (makes it great).”

FC Juarez started the game with all of its regular players, while Club America had seven of eleven substitutes on the field.
