Prosecutor: Chester County man charged in blunt force death of toddler

Enrique Lopez Gomez, 20, has been charged with third-degree murder, manslaughter and other crimes in connection with the death of a 21-month-old boy.

A Chester County man is accused of hitting a toddler and causing injuries that resulted in the child’s death, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Enrique Lopez Gomez, 20, has been charged with third-degree murder, manslaughter and other crimes in connection with the death of a 21-month-old boy.

According to investigators, paramedics were called to a property on Cope Road in Kennett Square on Monday for a report of an unresponsive child.

According to investigators, they were met by the child’s mother, who had wrapped the boy in a blanket.

Paramedics soon discovered that the child had no pulse and white foam was coming from his mouth and nose.

Investigators say paramedics in the ambulance noticed bruising on the child’s body. He died shortly after arriving at Nemours/AI Dupont Hospital for Children.

An autopsy conducted by the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office later concluded that the child had suffered blunt trauma to the abdomen, investigators said.

“(Gomez) brutally injured a young child in his care, failed to provide medical care to the child and caused his death,” said District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

Gomez, a West Grove resident, is being held on $10 million bail.
