Sheryl Crow criticizes Drake for using Tupac’s AI voice in a diss track

As Variety reported, Crow talked about using AI in the music industry to bring back the voices of deceased musicians.

She called out nonstop singer Drake for using Tupac Shakur’s voice against the Damn rapper in his diss song “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

She said you can’t bring back the dead and think they’ll tolerate it. Crow added that she’s sure Drake thought, “Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll apologize later. But it’s already happened and people are going to find it even if he takes it down.” The singer called it “hateful” and “contradictory” compared to the life force that lies within every human being.

For those who don’t know, Tupac’s estate has sent the Canadian rapper a cease and desist letter. Howard King, the estate’s litigation attorney, said the estate was “deeply dismayed and disappointed” that the Passionfruit singer used the legendary rapper’s unauthorized voice and “persona,” according to Variety.

The trial attorney continued, “Not only is the record a blatant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time,” adding that Tupac’s estate would never have given permission for such use.

According to Variety, the diss track was pulled after the late rapper’s estate threatened to sue the Canadian singer.

Sheryl Crow’s opinion on AI in the music industry

According to Variety, during her appearance on the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” she said she was “disturbing” about what artificial intelligence could do.

She remembered a session with a young songwriter. The songwriter needed a singer to sing the song so she could present it to the male singers in Nashville.

Crow added: “I paid $5, put in John Mayer’s name and she played it for me.” The singer said you couldn’t tell the difference at all and it blew her away. “And it didn’t just sound like him, I mean like his accent,” Crow said. The Soak Up The Sun singer said the experience “really scared” her.

During her conversation with the BBC, Crow said that Al could do many things but could not perform live. The veteran singer added: “As long as we have live music, as long as we have hands holding a paintbrush, all is not lost.”
