Leslie Knope has done a lot, but her greatest contribution may be the term “punk book jockeys.” Although the term was originally used as an insult, librarians everywhere have embraced the bewildering hatred of Parks and Recreation Staff wearing the badge proudly. From an enthusiastic punk book jockey herself, thank you. Your (satirical, right? RIGHT?) hatred of our profession has led to a rebranding that makes me feel like a rebel rather than a stuffy matron. It’s not the books I need to protect, it’s the people!
