Official media report that an army officer was killed in an Israeli attack on Syria

A Syrian army officer was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the south of the country on Wednesday, the regime’s official said. SANA The news agency reported, citing a military source.

“The Israeli enemy carried out an attack using drones on two military positions of our armed forces in the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa,” the agency said. The attack resulted in the death of the officer and property damage.

Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on its northern neighbor since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. The attacks have primarily targeted positions of the Syrian regime army and Iranian-backed fighters, including the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

After the start of the Israeli war against Gaza in October, attacks increased.

Although Israel rarely comments on individual attacks in Syria, it has repeatedly stated that it will not allow its arch-enemy Iran to expand its presence in the country.

The war in Syria has killed more than half a million people and forced millions more to flee since it broke out in 2011, when security forces cracked down on anti-regime protests.
