Fashion brand Burc Akyol presented its spring-summer 2025 collection with the fitting name “Heart open“, translated “Open heart“” in English, an expression of raw emotional landscapes translated into fabric and form. The collection is a visual narrative of personal and artistic engagement, exploring the complexities of love and identity within the confines of a structured society.

As the creative force behind Burc Akyol, the designer channels his recent civil partnership into the collection, reflecting on the binding bonds of love and the resulting loss of individual freedom. Each piece in the collection serves as a metaphor for the stages of a relationship – from the heady rush of new love, symbolized by bright, flowing dresses, to the sobering stability of tailored suits, symbolizing long-term commitment and the sometimes restrictive nature of monogamy.

The theme of commitment goes beyond personal relationships and reflects the designer’s devotion to his craft. The collection’s narrative revolves around the tumultuous journey of maintaining personal identity while being deeply intertwined with another person. This duality is expressed through contrasting elements in the garments – transparent, delicate fabrics versus structured, hard lines, representing the ongoing tension between personal desires and shared responsibility.

Fanny Ardant’s moving statement: “Art takes the place left by love”, resonates deeply throughout the collection, suggesting that art offers a sanctuary in the spaces where love is all-consuming.
