WATCH: Simon Cowell thrilled by Irish singer’s emotional song on America’s Got Talent

Singer Stephanie Rainey from Cork impressed the judges and easily advanced to the next round in the 19th season of America’s Got Talent.

Stephanie, 36, sang an original song in front of judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel and explained that she wrote the song “Please Don’t Go” after the tragic death of her nephew the day before his first birthday.

The emotional song moved the audience to tears and Simon Cowell commented afterwards that it was “by far” the best new song he had heard this year.

“And your voice is beautiful. This song is going to resonate with a lot of people. I just love it,” the music mogul added.

He even came on stage after Rainey’s performance and said: “That was what I call a moment. The song is so beautiful. Thank you very much.”

The three other judges also praised the woman from Cork. She received four yes votes and moved on to the next round of the talent show.

Stephanie explained that she signed the contract after her video for “Please Don’t Go” was viewed a million times in one day, but that her journey in the music industry up to that point had been “very tough.”

“I would say my career has been a real rollercoaster ride,” she told the judges.

“This song I’m about to play had a big moment in the past. We made it in a tiny room and uploaded it on a Monday morning and by the end of the day it had a million views.

“And then I signed a contract after the song came out. I think I probably didn’t know exactly who I was when I signed the contract.

“The road from then to now has been tough. It’s a tough industry, you have to be resilient. You have to be ready to get back up again. And here I am now.”
