Man crossed Africa to publish book

The man who crossed the length of Africa will publish a book describing his experiences during this challenge.

After visa complications, health scares, geopolitical issues and an armed robbery, Russell Cook, nicknamed the “Hardest Geezer,” crossed the finish line in Tunisia on April 7 after 352 days.

The 27-year-old from Worthing in West Sussex has raised more than £1 million ($1.27 million) for charity.

Mr Cook said the book would tell stories from “the craziest year of my life”.

The extreme challenge began on April 22, 2023 at the southernmost point of South Africa and ended more than 10,190 miles (16,400 km) north in Tunisia.

He originally planned to complete the equivalent of 360 marathons in 240 days, but complications forced him to extend the challenge.

Mr Cook said the challenge had “fundamentally changed me physically, mentally and spiritually”.

“In my book, I not only tell the untold stories of what really happened during the craziest year of my life, but I also talk about the steps I took to overcome all the challenges along the way,” he said.

“I hope I can pass on some of the lessons I’ve learned. But most of all, I hope my story of a truly crazy adventure can inspire you to truly believe in yourself and go for what you want out of life, whatever that may look like for you.”

The book is scheduled to be released on October 24th.

Mr Cook, who was raising money for The Running Charity, recently took on a new challenge: running to Germany to support England at Euro 2024.
