Atlantic Series: Long Island Ducks vs. York Revolution: How to watch

Atlantic Series: Long Island Ducks vs. York Revolution: How to watch

There have been few worthy opponents for the Revs of late, but the Long Island Ducks – who have given York some trouble this season – are the next team on the schedule that will look to strike.

York and Long Island are currently in the midst of a three-game midweek series against each other, with the final two games of the series scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Wednesday and Thursday at WellSpan Park in York, Pennsylvania. Both games are scheduled to be streamed live and exclusively on FloBaseball.

The Revolution (36-18 overall) have had a fantastic June and enter Wednesday night’s game against the Ducks on a seven-game winning streak. With a nine-game lead in the first half of the North Division, York clinched the North’s first-half division title with an 11-9 win in 10 innings in Tuesday’s series opener against the Ducks to clinch a playoff spot.

Long Island (25-29) will have to find some magic again in the second half to make it to the playoffs. Although they are 11 games behind the Revolution in the North’s first half after Tuesday’s games, the Ducks have played pretty well against York this season. Before this week’s series, Long Island had a tied 3-3 record against the Revs in 2024 and even managed to reclaim the first series of the season between them from May 14-16.

2024 Long Island Ducks vs York Revolution

Players in focus

Tyler Dearden, OF, Long Island Ducks

Dearden made it to Triple-A in six seasons with the Boston Red Sox before deciding to try the independent route with Long Island this year. The New Jersey native got off to a flying start and became one of the ALPB’s most reliable hitters.

He’s third in the ALPB (at the time of writing) with a .363 batting average and is the league’s best-hitting teammate pairing with fellow Duck hitter Frank Schwindel (.373), while Dearden has also shown some power this year with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. He’s also one of only three players in the league who currently have at least 200 batting appearances and an on-base-plus-slugging percentage over 1.000, giving him a 1.064 rating in that category.

Dearden hit one of his home runs of the year on Tuesday in the series opener against York and was a productive option in the batter’s box despite Long Island’s overtime loss. He should continue to be dangerous as the Ducks look to upset one of the ALPB’s best teams and one of its biggest title contenders this week.

David Washington, INF, York Revolution

Yes, Washington may have been mentioned as a name to keep an eye on before, in one of FloBaseball’s previous preview posts of the Atlantic League series earlier this month, when York took on the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars.

But let’s face it: June in Washington was simply too good to ignore and must be recognized again.

Since June 1 alone, Washington (a former major leaguer with the Baltimore Orioles) has hit an incredible 13 home runs with 33 RBIs, catapulting himself to the top of the ALPB leaderboard in both statistical categories (23 home runs and 59 RBIs on the season). He has also been the driving force behind York’s stunning performance over the past few weeks, with the team holding an 11-1 record over the past 12 weeks after games concluded on Tuesday.

And speaking of Tuesday, in the Revolution Series opener against the Ducks, Washington extended its home run streak for the third straight game (and has six home runs in the last six games) by unleashing a walk-off two-run blast in the 10th inning to shut down Long Island and give York an electrifying victory.

No one in the ALPB has been as strong at bat as Washington this month, and as he continues to hope for an MVP candidacy, it should come as no surprise if more long shots are thrown in this week’s series against the Ducks.
