Jenny McCarthy calls one candidate the ‘frontrunner’ as the competition announces its final three candidates

Clock, Goldfish, Gumball and Poodle Moth competed in the quarterfinals of the Fox singing competition on May 8.

The last four won the Masked Singer Stage on Wednesday May 8, when the battle for the Golden Mask trophy intensified.

Before Clock, Goldfish, Gumball and Poodle Moth returned for the quarterfinals, host Nick Cannon announced that judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke could press a blue button on the judges’ desk to receive an additional clue for a contestant in the form of an Amazon Prime delivery package.

From there, Clock was the first to enter the stage.

“Beating all those young greenhorns still shocks this clock,” Clock said in her clue package.

Clock said her loved ones always enjoyed listening to her sing until she expressed that she wanted to do it for a living. “I was a young mother and was most worried about my own mother,” Clock said.

Now “my son actually works with me on tour,” Clock revealed.

Clock got the crowd dancing with “Get on Your Feet” by Gloria Estefan.

Afterward, Clock received a call from someone special: her son. “You never cease to amaze me,” he said. “I’ve seen you perform a thousand times. I know you’re nervous tonight, but remember, you performed for the Pope.”

Clock was close to tears when she heard her son’s testimony and the jury suspected that she might be one of the members of Sisters Sledge or Shirley Bassey.

Next, Gumball appeared.

On the machine, his clue package stated that as “someone who was a former athlete,” participating in the May 1 episode of Smack Down made him feel “like I was back on the field.”

Gumball tried “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.

“I think that’s a voice that belongs in a famous boy band,” said McCarthy, 51.

As an additional clue, Gumball received a call from his wife. “I’m so proud of you and seeing you on stage reminds me of your time off Broadway,” she said. “You’re really back in your element.”

Gumball called his wife “the most incredible person I know.”

James Van Der Beek, Derek Hough and Taran Killam were floated as options for Gumball, and Jeong, 54, stuck to his guess that Killam, 42, would play the lead role after entering the Amazon Prime clue and receiving a pediatrician kit.

McCarthy thought Jeong “might be right” in suspecting the former Saturday Night Live Star.

Poodle Moth kept things going by remembering how she was saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” bell during the Group C final. “I was so grateful,” Poodle Moth said in her clue package.

The dog-insect hybrid said that a similar situation had happened to her during her career.

“I was rescued when I needed it most,” said Poodle Moth. “Before my big break, I had no cash, my credit card was maxed out, and I even had to borrow money for gas. I was afraid to answer the phone just because I thought it would be the debt collectors again, until one day I was about to ignore it, but for some reason something inside me called a signal. And thank God, because that call changed everything.”

This call was Poodle Moth’s “big breakthrough,” she revealed.

Poodle Moth covered “Price Tag” by Jessie J feat. BoB before receiving another important call – this time from her sister.

“Is there anything you can’t do?” asked Poodle Moth’s sister. “Seriously, from performing in that costume to being nominated for a Golden Globe, your talents are limitless.”

The judges thought Poodle Moth could be Sheryl Crow, Chrissy Metz or Riley Keough.

Finally, Goldfish spoke about her professional development.

“I feel like I’ve been through a lot in my career,” Goldfish said in her clue packet. “When you’re young and suddenly you’re a role model, there’s a lot of pressure on you to live up to expectations and grow up in front of the world. People wanted me to be one thing: perfect. But perfect is impossible, the only thing I am is resilient. In Hollywood, you have to constantly reinvent yourself. From our teenage years to our adult years, we’re not the same anymore.”

Goldfish covered “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole.

“You really are a starlet and a frontrunner in this competition,” McCarthy raved about Goldfish.

The fish then took a call from her husband, whom she described as “a really sexy man who I love dearly.”

“Hey baby, I’m so happy to see you do so well in this competition, but honestly, I knew this all along,” he said. “You never back down from a challenge and you love performing live.”

Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens and Nicole Scherzinger were considered as options for “Goldfish”.

Cannon, 43, announced that after voting by the studio audience and the judges, the two contestants with the two lowest votes would compete on Smackdown. After the votes were counted, the father of 12 announced that Gumball and Poodle Moth would face off on Smackdown, while Clock and Goldfish would advance to the semifinals.

Poodle Moth and Gumball each put their own spin on Cher’s hit “If I Could Turn Back Time.”

Ultimately, the panel chose Gumball, while Poodle Moth unmasked himself. Poodle Moth proved to be this is us Star Chrissy Metz.

“In these clue packages, you accessed your emotions,” Jeong said after the 43-year-old actress showed off her masquerade. “We felt it.”
