Canyon Lake Yacht Club has announced the launch of its pennant exchange contest, which will honor members who collect the most pennants from other yacht clubs in the United States and abroad. It is a nautical tradition to exchange pennants when visiting other yacht clubs.

Members who accept the pennant exchange challenge are asked to purchase a Canyon Lake Yacht Club pennant and exchange it for a pennant from another yacht club, which must be a club that does not already have a Canyon Lake pennant.

The member should document the exchange with a photo. Once the member returns the other club’s photo and pennants to Canyon Lake Yacht Club, the member will receive recognition and a gold star for their efforts. The member with the most gold stars at the end of the year will be declared the winner. The winner will receive a special gift, recognition, a photo, and a post on the club’s website.

To date, the club has received 23 pennants from other clubs. Members Cathy and Dan Lekawa are the first to present an international pennant. It comes from the Thousand Island Yacht Club in Ontario, Canada. Cathy had previously met a member of the small yacht club while on vacation while waiting for a ferry to Nantucket. This member invited the Lekawas to stop at Thousand Island on their way from Montreal to Niagara Falls.
