The script and direction of the “Harry Potter” television series will be taken over by the “Succession” duo

“Harry Potter” is returning to our lives, this time in the form of a television series. After months of pitches and tests Franziska Gardiner has been tapped as showrunner and executive producer of the series. She will be joined by Mark Mylod, who will serve as a lead director and executive producer on the series. The duo previously worked together on “Succession,” which is an exciting collaboration for television fans.

Deadline was the first to break the news, revealing that the choice came four months after Gardiner was chosen as one of the finalists for the series, beating writers Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan in the race for the position.

Gardiner has extensive experience in television, including “Succession,” where she served as a consulting producer on seasons three and four. She was also a producer on “His Dark Materials” and “Killing Eve.” Mylod is an experienced television director and served as supervising director on “Succession.” Previously, Mylod directed episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Last of Us,” “Shameless,” and more.

Further details on the new “Harry Potter” series

The Harry Potter series has been described as a faithful adaptation of the books, with each season adapting a novel. This format will be able to include all the details that had to be left out of the films due to time constraints. It will be an HBO original and will feature a new cast of young actors taking on the roles for years to come. “The series will feature a new cast leading a new generation of fans, full of fantastic details and beloved characters that ‘Harry Potter’ fans have loved for over 25 years,” HBO said in a statement.

The premiere of the series is scheduled for a specific date in 2026.
