“We love to dance” – Times Leader

“We love to dance” – Times Leader

“Oh, my love, my darling, I have longed for your Touch, a long, lonely time. And time passes so slowly, and time can do so much. Are you still mine? I need your love, I need your love, God grant me your love…”

The dance floor at the Keystone Ballroom at Mohegan Pennsylvania in Plains Township was packed Wednesday afternoon as the Luongo Brothers played a slow song like “Unchained Melody.”

And it was packed when they played faster numbers like “Don’t Worry Baby,” “Keep Away from Run-Around Sue,” and “I Fought the Law and the Law Won.”

“We love to dance,” said Sandra Rowland after dancing a waltz with her husband Richard. “To anything from the ’50s and ’60s.”

The Rowlands also enjoy activities at the Dallas Active Adult Center, one of several centers managed by the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Area Agency on Aging.

On Wednesday afternoon, the agency hosted its annual dinner dance – a “red carpet event” with a red carpet at the entrance, fun props and photo booths – for about 350 active adults who attend these centers and a few additional friends.

Some wear formal evening wear, others are dressed more casually.

One man wore a cowboy hat. And one woman decided not to wait until her feet hurt before taking off her shoes. She took them off before stepping on the dance floor. “I can’t dance with shoes on,” said Cathy Ares of Hanover Township, laughing.

Beforehand, guests could choose between fish or prime rib.

“And the dessert was exquisite,” said Margaret Klush, a line dancer from Kingston Active Adult Center. “It was cheesecake, so how could it not be exquisite?”
