Country singer Taylor Sanders finds hope in God’s promise after her loss

After suffering a miscarriage and the death of her mother within a year, country singer Taylor Sanders explained how she found hope through God’s promises.

“God puts us in certain situations to make us stronger,” Sanders told PEOPLE. “In Peter’s letter, he says, ‘You will suffer only for a season.’ I hold on to that.”

The last year and a half have been a rollercoaster of emotions for the singer. In November 2022, she was preparing to shoot a music video for her debut single “Firecracker” when she received a message that turned her world upside down.

“I was pregnant and had just had a follow-up ultrasound,” Sanders said. “They said they thought I was about eight weeks. But then they said the heartbeat had stopped.”

“I told myself that the morning of the video shoot I would mourn and cry, but then I would put on makeup and get ready to shoot the video,” she recalled. “It’s almost like I’d disconnected from myself and become ‘Taylor Sanders’ the artist instead of ‘Taylor Sanders’ the person.”

“I thought if I can pull myself together emotionally and mentally and I’m not really sick physically, then I’m going to try to be strong and do what I love to do,” she added. “We put so much work and planning into it, so I decided to just keep going.”

Sanders managed to successfully record her first music video – an important milestone for any artist. This would not be the only time the singer experienced joy and heartbreak in close proximity.

A few months later, Sanders was pregnant again and gave birth to her son, Gage Wolf, in December 2023. But alongside this joy, she faced another challenge.

Just weeks after the birth of her son, Sanders’ mother died from complications during a procedure to combat her bone cancer.

“She had a bone marrow cancer called myelofibrosis,” Sanders explained. “She had an allogeneic stem cell transplant and died from complications of grade four graft-versus-host disease and sepsis. She was 60 years old. She was the strongest person I know. I’ve never seen anyone fight so hard.”

Although Sanders still suffers from the pain of losing a baby and her mother within a year, she uses her new music to encourage others going through difficult times. She clings to God’s promise that suffering is only temporary, and points herself and others to the days when pain will be a thing of the past.

“Sometimes you have to climb mountains to find the light on the other side,” Sanders said. “It’s about reaching the light on the other side of the pain. I am strong enough to keep going. And I know I will be a strong person while doing it.”

She hopes to raise her son in such a way that he also looks to God under all circumstances.

“Regardless of the talents God has given him, it is my deepest desire to inspire him to embrace life with unwavering determination, devotion, and overflowing kindness. Most of all, may he find strength and guidance in Jesus Christ,” she posted before his birth.

Sanders has found “immeasurable” rewards as she navigates the music industry as a young mother.

“My son has inspired me to dig deeper, dream bigger, and make music that reflects the depth of my love for him,” the singer told Atwood Magazine. “On this journey, I have found a new source of strength within myself – a strength born from the passionate love and determination that comes with motherhood.”
