Fans of Lana Del Rey know that she has a soft spot for bad boys and white mustangs.
Turns out she also has a penchant for fine Italian cuisine, red Corvettes, and hidden gem towns.
On Tuesday night, June 25, crowds gathered outside Jianna in downtown Greenville hoping to catch a glimpse of the “Candy Necklace” singer as she left the restaurant. The 39-year-old, who is considered down-to-earth among fans, was quick to respond to requests for autographs and photos in the West End.
The unforgettable encounter with the Grammy-nominated singer was shared on social media and caused a stir in the Greenville community. Here’s the story of how one fan managed to meet the pop princess just in time.
BreAnna Cutler talks about her trip to Del Rey
BreAnna Cutler and her fiancée Katie Inscho are local business owners in the Upstate. When Cutler was 12, her aunt introduced her to Del Rey’s music. Since 2011, Del Rey has been one of her favorite artists. Her fiancé is also a huge fan.
On Tuesday, Cutler learned from a friend that the singer was having dinner in Greenville at Jianna across from Falls Park. The news came as a complete surprise. Inscho suggested that the two of them go and see if they could catch the singer leaving the restaurant. Cutler was hesitant at first.
“I didn’t want to come across as disruptive, but I also know Lana has talked in interviews about how much she loves driving to smaller towns and meeting her fans in person, so we decided to make the drive,” Cutler said.
Del Rey signs Inscho’s red Corvette
Cutler was nervous on the drive there. Her excitement didn’t let up and she soon parked right in front of Jianna in a spot she described as “meant for her.” Other fans were also waiting for the singer.
After an hour, the singer came out onto the balcony to wave to her fans. A few minutes later, she left the restaurant, greeting her fans from Greenville.
“We gave her some social time and then Katie asked her if she would sign her Corvette (which we joked about on the way to Greenville) and she replied, ‘I love a red Corvette!'” Cutler said. “We were both so excited in the moment and had the signature plated and sealed today by Extreme Auto Spa Colors of Greenville. They actually did it for free because they saw the video online!”
Cutler, whose favorite Del Rey song is “Video Games,” is grateful for the kind people who were involved in the experience. In November, she plans to sing the song with Inscho during the first dance of her wedding.
“It’s just a beautiful and relatable song about feeling comfortable and at home with someone you love,” Cutler said. “After she (Del Rey) signed the Corvette, I feel like ‘Swinging in the Backyard, ride up in your fast car, whistleing my name’ takes on a very special meaning.”
Greenville fans freak out because they missed the singer
Posts about Del Rey’s sighting have been circulating on social media since Tuesday evening, with fans who were unable to witness the star firsthand expressing disappointment at not being in the right place at the right time to meet the singer, who was named one of Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2023.
“Lana Del Rey was in Greenville last night, taking a leisurely stroll through downtown. … Excuse me while I go cry,” one fan said in a Facebook post.
Another post read: “Ana and I will probably cry for the rest of our lives over missing Lana Del Rey in downtown Greenville while we were out of town. We are literally breaking down… filled with summer sadness.”
