About Downtown Live: Downtown Live is a concert series in Statesboro, Georgia, organized by the City of Statesboro. The series runs from April through September and features concerts on select Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

About The Swingin’ Medallions: Tradition is defined as “the passing down of a belief, legend, or custom from generation to generation.” The Swingin’ Medallions, a Southern tradition since 1962, are a living definition of that word.

How does a band last for generations? The group’s distinctive, high-energy style delights audiences of all ages. Their performances and music are indeed timeless. The band was founded in 1962 by John McElrath and today includes his sons Shawn and Shane, as well as Joe Morris, the original drummer, who plays as many gigs as possible!

Featuring an ever-popular horn section, the group skillfully blends the sounds and music of yesterday and today. The band has performed in thousands of venues across the country, and their diverse repertoire has made them overwhelming favorites with college audiences and more mature rock’n’rollers alike.

The band rose to fame in 1966 with their 1.5 million-selling hit album, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love.” It remains the band’s signature song to this day. In fact, the song continues to prove its timeless quality on radio, television, and in movies. “Double Shot” was followed by another hit, “She Drives Me Out of My Mind,” in 1967. In 1969, they released another hit, “Hey, Hey Baby,” which was played during their performance at the 2004 Gator Bowl halftime show. The band released countless other singles on Capitol and Smash Records.

Lewis Grizzard (Southern humorist and author) called the Medallions “THE PARTY BAND OF THE SOUTH,” a nickname that has forever become synonymous with the Medallion name.
