Michigan State University football goal makes an interesting comment about Jonathan Smith

The Michigan State football team’s official June visit season may be over, but there’s still plenty of excitement to come in the recruiting world this offseason. The next big event for MSU is Spartan Dawg Con, an annual recruiting event each summer aimed at prospective high school recruits from seniors and juniors.

The Spartans just learned who the first confirmed attendee of this event will be, and he made an interesting comment about Jonathan Smith and the culture he is building in East Lansing.

Jake Janda is an elite tight end recruit in the class of 2026. He is a three-star recruit and the No. 23 tight end in the country and the No. 9 player out of the state of Michigan according to 247Sports.

Although Janda already has a crystal ball prediction in favor of Michigan, he is still the first newcomer to commit to coming to Spartan Dawg Con later this summer.

Speaking to On3’s Kenny Jordan following the announcement, Janda said, “I feel like (Michigan State) is less about Hollywood now and more about football… It’s not about me, it’s about us.”

This quote clearly shows the drastic culture change Smith and his team have already created in East Lansing. The previous team was more concerned with the photo shoots and creating an internet persona that never really stuck with Michigan State’s fan base. That has changed quickly, however, and recruits across the country are already taking notice.

Michigan State had one of the best cultures under Mark Dantonio and that was one of the many reasons why the program was so successful. But that culture was unfortunately wiped out during the Mel Tucker era.

Fortunately, however, it appears that Smith will bring the program back to where it should have always been and fully represent who Michigan State and its fan base truly are.
