All “Cosmic” songs by Red Velvet in the ranking

Red Velvet is FINALLY back and they did not disappoint!

On June 24, 2024, Red Velvet celebrated their highly anticipated comeback with the mini album Cosmic. The album contains six songs, including a lead single of the same name. This is Red Velvet’s first release in over seven months since “Chill Kill” in November 2023. The release also marks the girl group’s tenth anniversary!

All of the songs on the album are great, but some are a little different. Here are all of the songs on the album, ranked from worst to best.

6. “Bubble”

“Bubble” is a fun synthpop dance song that has everything a music lover could want: groovy beats, bass, and a stunning keyboard performance. The song’s lyrics are about being so in love with someone that the world is always dazzling when you’re with that person. While the world admires the presence of that special someone, the rest of the universe will envy them wherever they are.

Although the song has some great riffs from Wendy in the last chorus, I think it lacks the catchy quality of the other songs. Overall, it’s just not as memorable as the other songs on “Cosmic.”

5. “Love Arcade”

Based on the title alone, I expected this song to be my favorite. However, the sound effects, which SM Entertainment said were reminiscent of an arcade, soon became boring and even slightly annoying at times. I mean, just let the girls sing!

“Love Arcade” is a dance-pop song about following your heart, letting go of your worries, and creating your own world. In “Love Game,” the members of Red Velvet ignore all the rules that stand between them, their love, and the future.

4. “Night ride”

If you’re someone who prefers Red Velvet’s early “Velvet-style” music, then you’ll love “Night Drive.” It’s a dreamy R&B pop song that will transport you to another universe with its mystical sound.

The title of the song is quite direct and fits well with the story they spun. In “Night Drive,” Red Velvet talks about an unforgettable night drive with their loved ones and how they will never forget the memories they made during the drive. The song is about how, just like a car driving at night, they want to trust the person they love and move forward together into the future without worrying about the final destination.

3. “Last Drop”

The reason I ranked “Last Drop” so high is because it feels like a Red Velvet song for ReVeluvs, which is beautiful considering they are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their debut!

Lyrically, this R&B pop song is about how Red Velvet was able to shine because their fans protected them like the universe. The spoken part by Wendy and Yeri really confirmed my theory that this is not a love song between a couple, but between Red Velvet and their fans.

2. “Sunflower”

Somehow “Sunflower” reminds me a lot of Melanie Martinez, but in the best way! The way Wendy sings “Hypnotized, you got me hypnotized” reminds me so much of the intro to “VOID”.

“Sunflower” is a lively yet emotional song. Lyrically, Red Velvet compares love to a sunflower that has a crush on the sun. Just as a sunflower always wants to face the sun, Red Velvet wants to stay with his loved ones forever, even if that means flying into space to prevent the night from falling.

1. “Cosmic”

It might seem a little obvious to put the first single at number one, but it’s just SO good! When I heard “Cosmic” I immediately realized that this is Red Velvet’s world and we’re just living in it; and that’s exactly what the song is about.

“Cosmic” is a sexy dance-pop song with a driving disco rhythm à la Dua Lipa. This fairytale track welcomes the listener who has just entered the world of Red Velvet and introduces them to infinite love “like the universe”.
