“It’s a really sad song”

Perrie Edwards has hinted that an emotional song about a past friendship will be released next week.

In an interview with the Zach Sang ShowEdwards revealed that her upcoming debut solo album includes a song about a past friendship. “I can’t even listen to that song without crying,” she said. “It’s about them and how no matter what happened, we never agreed. There was no communication, it’s a really sad song.”

“I hope that one day we can get back in touch and that something good will come out of it, but right now it’s just not like that, it hasn’t been good.”

Edwards said she was open to revisiting the song’s subject matter, but didn’t know if they would do that after hearing the song, as she had been “very honest about the situation.” She also explained that the song contained some “outrageous truths” about the person, saying, “Maybe it will help that person grow.”

After 11 years with Little Mix, Edwards launched her solo career earlier this year and released her debut single, “Forget About Us,” in April. She co-wrote the song, which reached the top 10 of the official UK charts, with Ed Sheeran, David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Christina Perri) and Steven Solomon. Speaking to NME Before the release, Edwards described the track as “anthemic – driving with the top down in the wind.”

The album also features a collaboration with Raye, who Edwards recently said was “the most talented human being I’ve ever seen in the flesh.”

“Every time I see her win an award or something happens to her, I’m so happy because she just deserves to win – she’s the kindest, most genuine person, but her talent is incredible,” she said ^ “NME: The Secret World”.

Edwards first rose to fame in 2011 after winning The X Factor as part of girl group Little Mix. In 2021, they announced that after a decade together, they would be taking “a little break” to focus on solo projects.

Before announcing their hiatus, Jesy Nelson left the group to start her own solo career and released “Boyz” featuring Nicki Minaj. The song sparked controversy online as Nelson was accused of blackfishing in the music video.

The remaining members – Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – have all begun releasing solo projects. Pinnock took an acting role in the Christmas film Boxing Day before signing with Warner Records. Thirlwall signed a worldwide deal with RCA Records after writing songs for artists such as TWICE (“First Time”), Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears (“Pretty Girls”).

Edwards also indicated NME that her fans can expect some live shows next year, but admitted that the idea of ​​performing solo still scares her: “I’m going to be terrified, don’t get me wrong, but it’s going to be epic.”
