COREY TAYLOR OF SLIPKNOT: ELOY CASAGRANDE “was the only” drummer “brave enough to get in a room with us”

In a new interview with Revolver magazine SLIPKNOT Singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root talked about the recent hiring of drummer Eloy Casagrande into the ranks of the group. Asked about the decision, Eloy‘s identity shortly after the first few appearances with the former SEPULTURA skins, Corey said: “I think we just said, ‘You know what? Let’s just tell people.’ It really was that simple, you know? Eloy was the only one brave enough to come in the room with us. We had a handful of other people and none of them wanted to jam with us. They just wanted to do their own thing and send it in – a very Tick Tock thing, you know? And we thought, “That’s not how it works, dude.” Eloy rearranged his schedule to come see us. He was so eager to jam and just see what would happen that we were immediately impressed by that alone. He didn’t get it right away – getting to know him was just as important as jamming with him – but once we made that decision, we thought, ‘Let’s tell the world now. He deserves it.’ Our audience is used to us not showing our hand, but for me it was more refreshing to just come out and say, ‘Yeah, he’s our guy.'”

Jim was also full of praise for Eloyand said, “Yeah, he’s a super cool guy. He’s really quiet, but he just lives, eats and breathes drums. When he has a free moment, he has a practice pad or practice kit in front of him. I recently bought a new house that has a little demo studio attached to the garage. I have a drum kit there and a big sofa that turns into a bed. Eloy And VMan (SLIPKNOT Bassist Alessandro Venturella) came here for a week between the Rockville And Sound Temple Festivals and Eloy was like, “Is it possible for me to stay in the room with the drums?” (Laughs) The next morning, literally at seven, I could hear drums playing in my studio. He’s like some kind of Jedi drum master, which inspires me. He makes me want to be a better guitarist, on par with his skills, you know?”

In a recent interview with Tone-Talk, SLIPKNOT guitarist Jim Root talked about how Casagrande came to join SLIPKNOT and his influence on the band’s overall sound. He said, “We didn’t even try with anyone else.” Eloy‘s name came up. He actually contacted us because he wanted to be involved and started sending us a lot of videos. I think he and our bass player had some sort of relationship before that. I think they knew each other. They had mutual friends. And Vmanis really in line with a lot of really great, progressive, hard-hitting musicians who play their instruments with passion. And it just seemed like a no-brainer. And he has a lot of respect for the legacy of (SLIPKNOT‘s original drummer, the deceased) Joey (Jordanson), And Joey had a big influence on him. And he’s so humble. The guy is so humble. And you can tell he lives and breathes his craft, to the point where I see his passion and it sparks my passion for my instrument. And Brazilians, South Americans in general, are so passionate about what they do. Our manager told me he went out to dinner with four or five promoters from South America and they were all really into it. They all said, “It’s so good that you have a Brazilian drummer.” SLIPKNOT now. We feel like we have won World Championship.’ It’s a cool feeling. And God, he just fits in so well. I don’t know, man. I mean, I have a lot to say about it. I’m just glad it happened when it happened. And we’re lucky to have him – we’re really lucky to have this guy.”

For the 2024 concerts so far, SLIPKNOT adopted a classic look, bringing back the red overalls from 1999 and elements of their early masks into their modern versions, alluding to the fact that SLIPKNOT is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

After the separation from Jay Weinberg last November, SLIPKNOT teased fans about a new drummer over two months ago by posting a photo of a single broken drumstick with the caption “Rehearsal.”

The band explained in a statement that the separation of Vineyard was a creative decision. Jay He then issued a statement saying that he was “heartbroken and completely taken by surprise” by the dismissal.

Vineyard has since joined SUICIDAL TENDENCIES And INFECTIOUS GROOVES.

Casagrande stop abruptly SEPULTURA three and a half months ago, shortly before he was due to begin rehearsals for the recently launched farewell tour to mark the band’s 40th anniversary.

“February 6, a few days before the first rehearsal, drummer Eloy Casagrande informed the band that he was leaving SEPULTURA to pursue a career in another project,” the band said in a statement.

Casagrande joined SEPULTURA almost 13 years ago as a replacement for Jean-Claude Dolabella.

SLIPKNOTthe latest album “The end, so far”was released in August 2022. It was the band’s last LP before the departure of the two keyboardists Craig Joneswho left the group in June 2023, and Vineyard.
