Samsung announces Unpacked event for Galaxy

Samsung has announced that its next Unpacked event will take place on July 10 in Paris, France. Based on a short video teaser shared by the electronics giant, observers are expecting updates on the company’s foldable phones from the Galaxy Z series and are hoping for a more definitive announcement on the Galaxy Ring smart health tracker.

The star of the event, however, is likely to be AI, i.e. how Samsung will integrate generative AI technologies into its products and devices. The company itself has indicated that mobile AI will be a major focus of the event. This comes after both Google and Apple placed emphasis on generative AI developments at their own developer events.

Reddit is working to prevent web data scraping

Reddit has announced that it is updating its Robots Exclusion Protocol (Robots.txt web standard) to prevent AI from scraping its content without consent or authorization. The social media forum will also crack down on certain user requests and take action against suspected bot activity following reports of web content being scraped to enable the creation of generative AI tools.

While Reddit has signed licensing agreements with major technology companies to share its data, the company said researchers or nonprofit users like the Internet Archive can still use the data for their own purposes because it is noncommercial.

OpenAI delays long-awaited enhanced voice mode

OpenAI is delaying its highly anticipated enhanced voice mode feature, as some ChatGPT Plus users will not receive it until a month later, in July. Other Plus users will be able to access it in the fall, which caused anger and disappointment at X as users claimed they paid for ChatGPT Plus hoping to use the voice mode months earlier. ChatGPT’s enhanced voice mode can respond through emotions and nonverbal cues, according to OpenAI, but the company is working on content moderation for the feature and also scaling it for large numbers of users.

On the other hand, OpenAI announced that the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS was available for users, allowing them to harness the power of generative AI through their desktop instead of using a phone app or logging into their accounts through the website.
