Release of ChatGPT voice mode postponed to July: This is what it’s about

OpenAI has announced a delay in the launch of its Voice Mode feature for ChatGPT, highlighting the need to address technical challenges and ensure a high-quality user experience. The release was originally scheduled for late June and has now been pushed back to July. The company emphasizes its commitment to security and user experience as the main reasons for the delay.

The Voice Mode feature, which is designed to enable lifelike voice interaction, was originally planned for a limited number of ChatGPT Plus users, but OpenAI has decided to delay the launch to further refine the feature and ensure it meets its strict standards before making it available to the wider public.

The AI company said in a recent update on Platform X that it had outlined certain areas that needed to be improved before releasing the feature.

“We had planned to launch the alpha version in late June for a limited group of ChatGPT Plus users, but we need an additional month to reach our launch standards. For example, we are improving the model’s ability to detect and reject certain content. In addition, we are focused on improving the user experience and preparing our infrastructure to effectively scale to millions of users while maintaining real-time response capabilities,” the company explained.

OpenAI also mentioned that in line with its iterative deployment strategy, the company will begin the alpha phase with a limited group of users to collect feedback and expand based on our observations. “We intend to provide access to all Plus users by the fall, although the exact timeline depends on compliance with our strict security and reliability standards. In addition, we are developing the new video and screen sharing features that we demoed separately and will keep you updated on the timeline,” the tech giant added.

“ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode can understand and respond to emotions and nonverbal cues, bringing us closer to natural, real-time conversations with AI. Our mission is to introduce these new experiences thoughtfully.”

Upcoming audio features will enable users to have more natural and dynamic conversations with ChatGPT. Users can talk to ChatGPT and receive instant responses without delay, and they will also have the ability to interrupt the AI while it is speaking – essential elements for realistic and seamless interactions.
