Israel-Hamas war live updates: Gaza on the brink of famine, over 495,000 people affected by food shortages | World news

Israel-Hamas conflict, Gaza war live: Gaza is on the brink of famine as the war between Israel and Hamas has continued for over seven months. Due to restrictions on the flow of aid, more than 495,000 people across the Gaza Strip are facing the worst, even “catastrophic” food shortages, Reuters reported, citing the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

Latest attack: Israeli forces killed 24 Palestinians in three air strikes on Gaza on Tuesday. Among those killed was the sister of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the militant Islamist group Hamas, health officials and doctors in Gaza told Reuters. Israeli tanks pushed deeper into the western areas of Rafah and shelled homes and two schools, killing 14 people. Another attack on a house in the Shati camp killed 10 more people.

What is the death toll so far? The war broke out on October 7 last year when Hamas-led militants launched an attack on Israel that, according to Israeli sources, killed around 1,200 people and took over 250 hostages. On the Palestinian side, up to 37,600 people were killed as Israel aggressively retaliated. Thousands of people have been displaced several times and Gaza lies in ruins.
