Kyle Kain, bottom left, leader, and members of the newly formed Webster City Community Band are seen here at a recent rehearsal. The band’s return marks a revival of a long-standing Webster City tradition of summer concerts at West Twin Park. The first concert will be tonight at 7 p.m.

Webster City isn’t Aspen or Santa Fe, but you’d think so given the ever-growing number of live music events currently taking place in town.

Webster City High School Band Director Kyle Kain has been waiting for the right time since he took office in 2022. Now his dream of re-establishing Webster City’s long-disbanded Community Band is about to come true.

The band is playing their first summer concert tonight at West Twin Park.

The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, but voluntary donations to support the community band are gratefully accepted.

“This summer is the right time,” Said Cain. “We have the people and the interest. Now we hope for public support.”

Like Cain, many people were not prepared for the fact that their musical careers would end after they graduated from high school.

“Many people have fond memories of their time in the school band and just want to get together again and make music for fun.”

Kain said the band has been holding multiple rehearsals each week and still has room for more musicians willing to rescue the horn from the attic and use it again.

“We rehearse on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the high school music room. We welcome musicians of all ages and abilities.”

When asked what he plans for the band’s premiere program, Kain said: “We will play some well-known marches and of course the ‘National Anthem’. There will be several medleys of rock’n’roll classics, probably some from the Beatles and Chicago as well.”

Cain predicts “It should be a good time.”

Can there be a better reason to play or listen to live music?

Grab your favorite lawn chair and enjoy the show. It’s much cheaper than a trip to Aspen or Santa Fe.
