Blake Shelton said he would return to “The Voice” under certain circumstances
The voice It’s just not the same without Blake Shelton! In 2023, the country singer officially left the singing competition and since then we’ve been hoping he’ll return.
Blake has been a fixture on the popular singing competition show since the first season in 2011. For a total of 23 seasons (12 years!) he has trained promising artists in Team Blake. In an interview with Entertainment tonightBlake explained that after such a long time on The voicehis heart was simply no longer in it.
“I really needed a break from that because if I wasn’t there, it wasn’t good for the people on my team,” he explained. “I don’t want to be someone who’s just doing their duty. These artists need someone to fight for them.”
The seemingly changing coaches each season of the show hasn’t helped Blake’s situation either. “The moment I felt like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t even know what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches this season?’ (I knew) I had to get out of here,” he added.
Blake stressed that he “doesn’t miss the job at all,” but he does miss certain aspects of his role as a coach. “I miss the people. I mean, these people have become like family to me, literally from the crew to the producers of the show. I was around them more than I was with my family… I miss that,” Blake recalled.
Of course, there were many good things from Blake’s time on The voice, including meeting his current wife Gwen Stefani. The singer of “Hollaback Girl” joined as a coach for season 7.
“In the first season she was The voice we met, but we didn’t talk much… If you had told me in the first season when we met what was going to happen, I would have said, ‘No, we don’t really have anything to talk about. What are you talking about?’ It’s crazy how things turn out,” Blake recalls.
Even good things must come to an end and as time goes on, Blake is convinced that he made the right decision to leave. “Every day feels a little better,” he said.
For now, Blake has closed that chapter of his life, but he said he would return to The Voice under special circumstances: if all four original coaches get back together. Blake coached the first season of The voice alongside Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green.
“If they could ever get the original four coaches back together, I would maybe come back for a season, one time,” Blake told ET. “I would enjoy that… That would be something I would love to do.”
