Chris Broussard: “JJ Redick better not lie about racist insults!”

Chris Broussard and Martin Weiss respond to a viral tweet in which a former Duke employee accuses new Lakers head coach JJ Redick of using a racial slur during his time at Duke. They get to the bottom of the allegations and examine the response from JJ Redick’s camp.

Chris Broussard: “JJ Redick better not lie because if it happened, it would be bad enough if he did it. If it happened 20 years ago or something, there might be a path to reconciliation. BUT if it comes out and two people make allegations that I don’t know who is right or who is telling the truth, JJ better not lie because if it turns out he did it and he denied it, that could very well cost him his job.”

Martin Weiss: “The internet never forgets, it stays forever. If it actually happened – and I’m not on either side – then I’ll lay it out in the open. If it did happen and he showed some level of remorse and said, ‘Show me another instance in my life where that happened,’ then we could have a different conversation. I think a lot will depend on how the players feel and what the general consensus is afterward. But maybe I’m naive. I find it hard to imagine that someone who uses the ‘N-word’ would only do it once.”
