INDIANAPOLIS — Nearly halfway through the season, Indiana Fever forward Damiris Dantas will finally make her debut. Indiana, which signed her to a guaranteed two-year deal in the offseason, activated her contract Tuesday afternoon.

In a related move, the Fever released guard Celeste Taylor, who was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year at Ohio State and the 15th pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Taylor’s departure makes Caitlin Clark the only rookie on the Fever’s roster this season.

More: Temi Fagbenle gave Fever a “new lease of life” before her injury. She is back and ready to give more.

Insider: Caitlin Clark set the franchise record for assists, but Fever needs her to be more aggressive

Brazilian Dantas was absent from Indianapolis for the first week of training due to visa issues and a death in the family. She arrived in the second week with a knee injury and ultimately did not participate in any of the Fever’s training camps.

Dantas did not suffer her knee injury while playing with Indiana – it was either an off-court injury or something she sustained while playing in Turkey during the WNBA offseason. Because it was an off-court injury, Indiana was able to temporarily suspend her contract while she recovered and technically have 13 players on the roster.

Indiana now has six guards and six forwards on its roster. It’s unclear how Dantas will immediately fit into the Fever’s frontcourt rotation, which currently includes Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith as starters. Forward Temi Fagbenle, who started at the 4, is nearly back to full strength and Katie Lou Samuelson comes off the bench at the 3.
