Natalie Portman talks about a possible MCU return after “Thor: Love and Thunder”

Natalie Portman joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011 Thorwhere she played scientist Jane Foster. Her most recent appearance in the MCU was in 2022 in Thor: Love and Thunderand the Oscar-winning actress has just touched on a possible return.

In conversation with Total Film (via GamesRadar), Natalie Portman announced her willingness to reprise her role as Jane Foster. The actress played Thor’s lover in three of the four Thor Films and left the franchise after the disappointing 2013 Thor: The Dark World. Although she did not return to the fan favorite Thor: Ragnarokshe repeated her role with a twist in Thor: Love and Thunder.

In the last Thor In the film, Jane is suffering from cancer and is only able to continue thanks to the power of Thor’s magical hammer, which transforms her into Mighty Thor. I laughed all day, every day. I just love this experience to the core – and not to forget Australia, which is just the most wonderful country.”

Why did Natalie Portman leave Thor?

Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster may not have been a superhero, but she had a lasting impact on Thor. The pair got together at the end of the first film and were still on good terms in the sequel, but their relationship took a dark turn after she was infected with Aether in Asgard. She never returned to the films, but her character was briefly mentioned in other MCU projects, with Thor eventually confirming their breakup.

The actress claimed that the departure from the MCU was amicable and that there were no hard feelings. Before her departure after Thor: The Dark WorldThe actress had only expressed positive feelings about her work in the superhero franchise. However, things could have turned out differently.

It was reported that Portman was unhappy after Wonder WomanPatty Jenkins was fired by Thor: The Dark Worldwhich she was set to direct before Alan Taylor joined the project. The Oscar winner was reportedly upset with her character’s development and had joined the sequel in part because of Jenkins’ involvement. Although she did not return for 2017 Thor: RagnarokWaititi could bring her back for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor is expected to return for a future project, and the fourth film has put the franchise in a hopeful place. However, so far there are no details about a possible Thor5for which no title, director, or plot have been announced. With Portman willing to return, there may be a possibility of giving Thor and Jane Foster another chance.
