Jackson State football coach TC Taylor and players at SWAC Media Day

Jackson State football coach TC Taylor should be familiar with the media’s daily routine as he enters his second season.

The SWAC Media Day is scheduled for July 16 at the Sheraton-Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jackson State, which had a 7-4 record last season, is looking to reclaim the SWAC championship from national black college champion Florida A&M.

In addition to Taylor, two-time All-SWAC offensive lineman Evan Henry and defensive lineman Esaias Guthrie will also be present at media day.

With the departure of first-team All-SWAC offensive lineman Deontae Graham, Henry will be the undisputed leader of the offensive line this season.

Henry moved from right guard in 2022 to center in 2023. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound player was named to the All-SWAC second team for the second time in his career last season and helped the Tigers to a SWAC-leading 389.4 yards of total offense average in 2023.

Guthrie, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, will return to a defensive backfield that led the SWAC with 17 interceptions last season. Jackson State was fourth in the conference in total defense, allowing 335.8 yards per game.

Jackson State begins its 2024 season on August 29 (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+) at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
