“Mr. Weatherall” helps the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (KLFY) – The Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana had the opportunity to meet local athletes and social media personalities at Training 4 Life.

Over 500 child members and over 100 volunteers attended Blackham Coliseum for a day of activities, food and performances by special guests including John Weatherall from KLFY.

Weatherall and Chantell Zenon taught the crowd his viral TikTok dance, “Mr. Weatherall.” Superbowl champion Brandon Mitchell of Abbeville also volunteered at the event. Former Patriots defensive end Mitchell said the event gave the kids hope and gave them a chance to connect with kids from other communities.

“The most important thing for me is for the kids to come together and be together at a young age so that when they get older they can talk about it and become friends,” Mitchell said. “‘Hey, I’m friends with this guy. I’m friends with that guy.’ That’s changed the culture a little bit.”

Kayli Bonin of Courtesy Automotive Group said this event provided a positive environment for children to get what they need. “Our youth are our future, so we need to focus on them. And that’s exactly what we’re doing today.”

UL running back Chaz Warb, who was at the Boys and Girls Club when he was younger, said this is a good opportunity to show the kids that there are good people in the community to look up to. “I was talking to one of the little kids earlier and he asked me what position I played. I said, ‘I’m just like you. I wanted to play football,'” Warb said. “I told him that as long as you work hard, dreams come true.”
