Family of Chicago woman who disappeared during yoga retreat in the Bahamas releases statement – NBC Chicago

The family of Taylor Casey, a Chicago woman who disappeared during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas, has spoken out, saying they are “deeply concerned” for Casey’s “safety and well-being” following her disappearance.

Casey, 41, of Chicago, was last seen on Paradise Island in Nassau on June 19, according to a flyer on the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Facebook page. Family members say Casey was on the island on a Sivananda Ashram yoga retreat when she disappeared.

“We are deeply concerned for Taylor’s safety and well-being,” Taylor’s mother, Colette Seymore, said in a press release posted in the public Facebook group “Find Taylor Casey.” “We love Taylor and want to bring her home.”

According to the press release, the Royal Bahamas Police Force issued a missing person poster on June 21 to alert the public to Casey’s disappearance.

“I believe Taylor is in danger because she was eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others when she returned,” Seymour said in the press release. “Taylor would never disappear like that.”

The press release goes on to say that a group, including Seymour, will travel to Paradise Island and Nassau to coordinate with local authorities.

In January, the United States issued a “Level 2” travel advisory for the Bahamas, warning that travelers to the Bahamas should “exercise increased caution due to crime.”

“Most crime occurs on the islands of New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport),” the warning states. “Violent crimes such as burglaries, armed robberies and sexual assaults occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas. Be vigilant when staying in short-term rental vacation properties that do not have private security companies present.”
