Selma plans welcome parade for “The Voice” champion Asher HaVon

In addition to a sold-out meet & greet, a parade and a free concert are planned in HaVon’s hometown.

While Selma watched him on TV for several months, she sent lots of love to Asher HaVon in Los Angeles. The amount of messages was overwhelming, so much so that he probably still hasn’t had time to go through them all.

This weekend, HaVon’s hometown has a chance to get up close and personal with the winner of Season 25 of NBC’s The Voice. On Saturday, June 22, HaVon will receive a hero’s welcome in Selma.

“Thank you for your love. Thank you for your support. I pray that I continue to make you proud,” HaVon, 31, told Selma shortly after his win in May, speaking to the Advertiser from LA, while announcing that he would be home to sing this weekend.

But the concert is only part of a whole day planned in honor of HaVon.

After a sold-out meet-and-greet event from 2 to 4 p.m., a welcome parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Selma City Hall, heading from Broad Street to Water Avenue. Parade guests are asked to bring items like signs, streamers and balloons to cheer him on.

Following the parade, there will be a free concert at the Selma Riverfront Amphitheater with vendors, food trucks and a children’s playground. In addition to HaVon, the concert will also feature Mark Taylor, Timeria Tee-Tee Baker, DJ Barack and special guest Alyssa Crosby. Doors to the concert open at 7 p.m., and music begins at 8 p.m.

Concertgoers should be aware that the amphitheater has a clear bag policy – clear tote bags, plastic bags and small clutches. All guests will go through security checkpoints and will be screened. Guests are asked to bring seat cushions, lawn chairs, blankets and coolers. No glass bottles or containers are permitted. All beverages should be served in cups.

Although this is an all ages event, all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The concert is part of the Levitt Amp Selma Music Series, which takes place every second and fourth Saturday in Selma through Oct. 26. HaVon’s appearance there is not just a result of his win. In fact, he said the concert was booked about a month before HaVon was announced as “The Voice” winner in May.
